So in my post yesterday I looked at 5 possible ways in which Quantum Computing snuggling up to Machine Learning could provide some amazing advancements…but now, today after the sugar has worn off I sit on a deckchair in the valley of wrong possibilities, under an overcast doom-laden sky which may or may now fall in…

There are downsides to every good invention, like Pandora’s box (well, the box was a good invention) we have unleashed an AI revolution that now, is replete with scientists and engineers so pre-occupied with being first to market that all ethical and moral considerations have evaporated like so much steam on a cold winter’s day. As Jeff Goldblum’s Character Dr Malcolm in Jurassic Park opined:

“YEAH, BUT YOUR SCIENTISTS WERE SO PREOCCUPIED WITH WHETHER OR NOT THEY COULD THAT THEY DIDN’T STOP TO THINK IF THEY SHOULD.”

I know there are committees, groups, councils and the like who are looking at the implications for humanity as we charge headlong into the “God” space of creating some sort of pseudo-sentient being with AI but aren’t these just talking shops? They don’t (and won’t) have any real bite for a number of reasons, not the least of which is capitalism rules OK.

We can’t put the genie back in the bottle, India, China, the US (and Europe bringing up the rear)…
