Mind The Gap: How Distractions Derail Productivity.
Let’s be honest, we’ve all been there — you sit down to work on a project, and the next thing you know, you’re knee-deep in skater fail videos, up to your neck in theological discussions on the hypostatic union on YouTube or scrolling through your social media feed for the hundredth time that day wondering if the earth really could be flat or if Karen on Facebook really does have the degree in epidemiology she needs for that level of vitriol.
Distractions are the enemy of productivity, and they can be especially sneaky when it comes to separating us from our goals but here’s the thing — your distractions are often a reflection of yourself. They are a sign of what you truly value and what you’re really looking for in life. So, if you’re constantly being pulled away from your goals by some distraction or other, it might be time to ask yourself what you’re really looking for.
“The happiness of your life depends on the quality of your thoughts.”
- Marcus Aurelius
Here’s a philosophical challenge for you: imagine that your distractions are a manifestation of your subconscious desires. If that’s the case, then the key to overcoming them is to identify what it is that your subconscious is really seeking and to find a more fulfilling and productive way to fulfil those desires.
