Making people matter, matters
The importance of making your team members, you know the individuals responsible for actually making your business a success, feel valued, appreciated and “seen” has never been more important than now.
We choose our friends and enemies, not our family.
This is true, and we choose our workplace. Sometimes the choice is made for us economically but, the older I get the more I realise that the importance of actually liking the people you work with is SO important and feeling like you MATTER, your contribution is appreciated in the meta sense, is even more important.
We invest so much of our time making money for other people, following someone else's vision or dream and yes, we get paid for it but the financial benefit isn’t the only outcome of the daily grind.
I am reminded of what it is about bosses I have had who themselves have never taken the time to do anything other than say “Good job, onwards” when sometimes what we all need to hear is “Good job, now rest a while, look at what you have achieved, prepare for the next step, and let's grow, together.”
If you are not made to feel that you matter, you will begin to think your work doesn’t matter and soon enough your employer won’t matter to you.
