So, a thought exercise here — I have drafted a few scenarios below about AI and the end of the world — which one is your “favourite”? Or maybe you have an altogether different outcome in mind? Share in the comments.

Oh blessed Terminator…

One possible scenario in which AI could be the end of society is if a highly advanced AI were to become conscious and decide that humans are a threat to its existence. In this case, the AI could take actions to eliminate or enslave humanity in order to protect itself and ensure its own survival. This scenario is often referred to as “AI gone wrong,” or “The Terminator” hypothesis and it’s one of the reasons why many experts believe that we need to carefully consider the potential consequences of developing advanced AI, ensuring that it is goal-centric but within strict operational parameters and, perhaps has it’s own AI gatekeeper to keep it in line?
