It’s the itchy season

Shorter days, darker nights, more time to think about the New Year. That’s what usually happens to me around this time. Not to say I want to jump ship into something new but, for the last 10 years perhaps because I was approaching the big 50, I have always been itchy around this time, wondering just WHAT shade of green the grass might be on the other side.

I will have been in my current company for around 5 years in February 2023 and in that time I steered the team to achieve a lot:

Created and implemented a strategy to drive revenue up 20% YoY

The team grew by 20% in 5 years

The average project value increased by 18%

Created a new development team from scratch

Oversaw the design, development, testing and rollout of some great automation software

Did exactly the same process to turn it into a SaaS product

And a heck of a lot more behind the scenes.

Thing is, I love creating, I love having ideas and working in challenging technical environments — not that I DO the work you understand, but having a team with Mekon-like brains and talents to match is such a great thing to be around.

But like all things, we yearn for change, advancement and moving “Up” that is, facing a new exciting challenge.

I mean, by January I might be over that itch but, I might not…

What about my fellow Directors/C-Suite-ers?
