“Happy employees” is NOT rocket science

You can’t just go to work for the money, you have to have a purpose, it has to connect with WHO you are or really, you’re wasting your life.

I love Valentine’#s Day. it’s a GREAT day to reflect on things, especially relationship related. Put aside the gory true story of St Valentine (clubbed to death and beheaded) and it lends itself well to examining not just the eros side of things but also, the relationship you have with your work.

In today’s fast-paced world, employees often find themselves feeling overworked, underappreciated, and disconnected from their workplace for a number of reasons. This leads to a lot of issues, not the least of which is a feeling of disconnection. Work is another relationship that requires attention and effort on BOTH sides. Any company that thinks they are simply fulfilling a contract by paying you doesn’t understand humans and probably should be avoided at all costs.

Your boss and their mentality, the way they interact with you, share, plan, support, encourage and challenge you is super-important. if that goes wrong then all else fails. When this happens it can lead to a lack of motivation and job satisfaction, and ultimately, burnout via depression, anger and just plain ol’ apathy!

It’s not rocket science. Apart from a decent (for decent read inflation-proof) salary…
