Creating a niche course on Udemy
So it’s Sunday morning and I have been up since 6am with one of my children. We have been watching Go-Jetters together and now he is off on the floor playing with his Duplo.
This gives me 10 minutes to articulate my thoughts on course creation Udemy.
I work in business automation and digital transformation. That a fancy way of saying
I design and implement solutions to automate the s*** out of businesses.
It’s a fairly wide-ranging topic but at its core are people, processes, data and technology.
A lot of the people who reach out to me a Finance professionals who are aware they need to automate some of their core processes but are:
- Unsure of where to start
- Unsure of how to structure the right team
- Unsure of how to define the scope and range of the project
- And, are unsure of how to examine and document their existing data-centric processes.
So, although I have myriad documents and tools to help them, I decided that a short affordable course on Udemy would be the best way to provide some essential understanding and to give some self-confide to those who are thrust into the fray with the dreaded words “You deal with x process, you can manage that project.”.
The purpose of this post is to start to document my course creation and the challenges I will inevitably face.
My current equipment is:
- Standalone 4k camera with built-in light
- USB plugin mic with pop cover
- Screen recording software
- Autocue software
So at this stage my thoughts on this creation process (having garnered plenty of feedback over the last 4 years) is:
- Design broad scope of course
- Break down into bite-size video chunks
- Script/bullet-point those chunks
- Finesse the existing document samples I have and prep those for release.
- Record the segments and curate the course material for each of those.
- Think of a catchy title
- Social-share the heck out of it.
Any further tips?
