AGI & ASI — What’s holding us back?
TL;DR: We ain’t there yet, and maybe not for a while. my prediction? 2065
It’s a hype train that a LOT of people are riding right now. Every day you see 15–20 “new” AI applications coming out of the woodwork which basically build on APIs typically from Google or OpenAI ut, what about true innovation, not just an innovative application of existing models and, when as Ray Kurzweil suggested, when will we hit the singularity and beyond?
Singularity:
The singularity is a hypothetical moment in time when artificial intelligence will surpass human intelligence and capabilities, leading to an unpredictable and irreversible change in human civilization. The singularity is often associated with the development of artificial general intelligence (AGI), which is a type of AI that can perform any intellectual task that a human being can.
The singularity is a controversial topic, with some experts believing that it is a real possibility and others believing that it is unlikely to occur. The singularity has been the subject of much speculation and debate, and it remains to be seen whether or not it will actually happen.
There’s a long way to go and there are a few hurdles we have to get over before the “Nirvana” of AGI and then ASI arrive, here are just some of them that I think are barriers to…
